Service

Volunteer!

The Alkathon runs entirely on service, and every helping hand makes a difference. From greeting members and making coffee to serving food or talking to newcomers, volunteers bring warmth, connection, and hope to those who need it most.

Pick the shifts that fit your schedule. No experience is needed for most roles, and instructions come with each shift.

What volunteers do

  • Greeters and registration: welcome people at the door and the welcome table.
  • Coffee and kitchen: keep the coffee on, serve food, and keep things tidy.
  • Chairpersons: open and close a meeting using the printed format.
  • Setup and cleanup: chairs, tables, signage, and leaving the hall as we found it.
  • Overnight support: keep the building open and welcoming through the night.
  • Literature and general helpers: the book table, and wherever a hand is needed.

Committee meetings are held every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Ottawa Area Intergroup Office, Suite 108, Bronson Centre. All are welcome. Questions about volunteering? Email volunteer@alkathon.ca.

How it works

  1. Sign in with your email

Enter your email address and open the sign-in link we send you. No password needed.

  2. Fill in a short profile

First name, last initial, phone number, and home group. Other volunteers only ever see your first name and last initial.

  3. Pick your shifts

Browse the open shifts by day, time, or position, and book as many as you like. Most shifts are about four hours.

  4. We remind you

You get a confirmation email, then reminders 24 hours and 1 hour before each shift. You can cancel online if plans change.
